My name is Yehonatan Shushan, a Sta"m scribe, founder and owner of the "Olam Hastam" institute.
Drawing on my extensive experience in the field — spanning over 15 years — and from a deep understanding of the profound need for Torah Scrolls, particularly in light of the circumstances of recent years, I have trained a team of Sta"m scribes who are God-fearing, highly professional and uncompromisingly skilled. The team operates under my personal supervision and guidance throughout every stage of the writing process, from the very first letter to the very last — and through to the great day of the Torah Scroll's dedication ceremony, when the completed and magnificent scroll is delivered by me personally, with immense emotion.
Beyond the professional dimension, for me every Torah Scroll is a life story. I connect personally to the family, the individual, or the cause in whose honor the scroll is written, and I accompany the entire process with sensitivity and profound understanding — so that the scroll may carry within it the meaning, the memory, and the eternity of the story it enshrines.
The institute specializes in writing Torah Scrolls to the highest standard of hiddur — meticulous adherence to halachic precision, and uncompromising quality in the writing, the parchment, the ink, and all related elements. Every scroll is written by God-fearing scribes, each one personally and carefully selected, with absolutely no compromises.
To date, I have had the privilege of completing over 45 Torah Scrolls through the "Olam HaSta'm" institute, which have been dedicated in synagogues throughout Israel and around the world. Each one was written with a sense of sacred mission, reverence, immense devotion, and the utmost attention to beauty and excellence.

"We had the privilege of bringing in the Scroll a few years ago — what a joy to remember! The process was very moving; we received a Torah Scroll of the highest professional standard. Several years later, the scroll is in perfect condition — it's clear Yehonatan used the finest materials. Highly recommend!!!"

"For years I sought to fulfill the dream of writing a Torah Scroll in memory of my mother. I came to Yehonatan on a friend's recommendation. The scroll was written to the very highest standard. The completion ceremony was moving and amazing. Most importantly, the timing perfectly matched the yahrtzeit. It was worth every shekel for such a result! I strongly recommend Yehonatan to anyone who shares this dream."

I am so happy with our choice of scribe Yehonatan — he accompanied us exceptionally, was patient and caring beyond expectations. The ceremony was deeply moving. I simply warmly recommend Yehonatan!!"
The moving process of writing a Torah Scroll is accompanied by great joy and immense excitement. Yet after making the decision, there is often confusion and many questions — What does the process involve? How long does it take? How do I know the scribe is trustworthy and God-fearing? What is the price? Does it include the Torah ark?
Because of these questions, I recommend scheduling a free meeting so you can receive the full toolkit to evaluate the process and reach your own final decision.
The laws of Sta"m are extremely numerous (over 5,000 halachot), complex, fundamental and deep. It is vital that the scribe be 100% proficient in all laws involved in writing a Torah Scroll so that it is valid and mehadrin. For example, if a scribe did not properly intend while writing the Holy Name, the scroll could be invalid. Therefore, verify that the scribe holds a certificate from one of Israel's recognized institutes — Yad Rafael or Mishmeret HaSta"m — and that the writing is professional, beautiful, legible and clear.
At our institute, scribes are selected with great care — all God-fearing, professional, high-quality and certified.
The moving process involves several stages:
Stage 1 – Introductory Meeting & Connecting to the Departed: We begin by deeply getting to know the deceased, then set the approximate dedication ceremony date and plan the timeline together. Throughout the process the client receives full guidance and complete availability for any question or deliberation.
Stage 2 – Choosing the Parchment: We select Grade A+ parchment sheets (yeriot), each carefully chosen to ensure they are white, pure, and velvety — preserving the scroll's quality for years to come.
Stage 3 – Writing the Scroll: Before writing begins, the name of the departed is mentioned and a candle is lit for the elevation of the soul. The scroll is written at the highest standard by a God-fearing, professional and meticulous scribe. The process is fully transparent — you may visit by appointment to see the scroll's progress. Before completion, guidance is provided for choosing the Torah ark. After writing, the letters are tagged, then the scroll undergoes two computer checks and one human proofreading.
Stage 4 – The Torah Scroll Dedication Ceremony: The dedication day is the most moving, filled with mixed emotions. It is recommended to be as free and present as possible on this day. The scroll arrives at the home from which the procession begins. The scribe writes the final letters in a moving ceremony. Honored guests are invited to participate. Then the joyous procession to the synagogue begins — with songs and dancing — followed by the festive Seudat Mitzvah.
The typical writing time ranges between 8 months and one year, depending on the scribe's equipment and availability. It is recommended to inquire as early as possible to allow for relaxed timeline planning.
That said, sometimes a completed scroll is available from one of the scribes and can be purchased immediately.
The price of a Torah Scroll typically ranges from 120,000 to 250,000 NIS, depending on the level of ornamentation. I should note that non-mehadrin scrolls are not produced by our institute.
Factors influencing the price: parchment quality, ink and other raw materials, scribe quality, script appearance, tagging, proofreading, binding, and delivery time.
At our institute every scroll is mehadrin — Grade A+ parchment sheets individually selected, the latest equipment, a God-fearing certified scribe with no compromises, high-level proofreading and tagging by certified professionals.
The Torah ark is not included in the scroll's price. Arks are available in a variety of colors and designs — we can refer you to partner stores at a discount. It is also possible to receive the scroll with an ark at an additional cost depending on the chosen ark.
The most common script styles are: Sephardic (Velish), Ari (Kabbalistic), Admor HaZaken (Chabad), and Yemenite.
I have been privileged to accompany many families in writing Torah Scrolls to honor the memory of their loved ones, and to help them feel that special connection to the departed. More than they were able to connect to their loved one, I personally feel a connection to the soul for whom I wrote the scroll — to the point where I feel compelled to continue mentioning those names in my own prayers throughout the years.
Every family I have been privileged to accompany is truly a part of me and always in my thoughts.
Every Torah Scroll dedication is a deep joy and great satisfaction for me, each and every time.
I would be more than happy to accompany you too in fulfilling the strong desire to do something great and meaningful for the departed — and to experience the feeling that they are with you everywhere, protecting and guarding you.
To write for you the Torah Scroll out of a deep connection to you and to the departed.
